My [continued] struggle as I aimed higher (High School)

“Anyone who thinks that quitting education is the solution has got it all wrong.”

I failed severally even after my little success in Senior Secondary three. I wrote JAMB (Joint admission and matriculation) three good times! The first time I wrote in 2003 (early test, I was still in SS3), I failed.

The second time was in 2004, I still failed, scoring less than 140 points in the first two sittings, while the cutoff mark as at that time was 160 . I remembered taking GCE in 2003 while still in SS3; I only managed to pass English, Islamic Studies, and Hausa. How Sad!

“For anyone who might be thinking of quitting studies because they don’t understand or because they just feel like they cannot handle it or think they have met an impenetrable barrier; such should have a second thought.”

Again, I tried Jamb for the third term, (Just like Buhari trying to rule Nigeria), this time I was third time lucky, unlike Buhari who was fourth time lucky. Lucky indeed, as the cutoff mark for mass communication was at 160 points. I happened to scale through with narrowest of margin—just two points. I was able to secure admission into Bayero University Kano—Thanks to post UME screening exams which was implemented same year or thereabout. I was able to gain admission because most of those who scored 200++ failed in the POST UME exams, I passed with flying colors. Until now, I am a strong advocate of the POST UME, not sure, if it still exists.

I went on to study my dream course (Mass communication). I dropped out of BUK in 2006 due to some silly administrative injustice.

Follow my blog next week for details of my ordeal with BUK and my journey to Informatics Kazaure.

“If you’re thinking of giving up or quitting, that sure is not the solution. The solution lies in trying over and over till you achieve your desired success.”
